Robert Bruce Foote started his career as a Geologist with Geological Survey of India, in the year 1858. In 33 years of service he traversed length and breadth of India, travelling more than 53000 kms, often on very primitive modes of transport. He was also an Archaeologist, Ethnographer, Museologist, Artist etc. It was in his role as a Palaeontologist that he made astounding discoveries of 459 prehistoric sites and 4135 antiquities, including the legendary Palaeolithic “Pallavaram Axe”, and almost single handedly unravelled and reconstructed the prehistoric past of India.
“Robert Bruce Foote - The Father of Indian Prehistory” is a documentary produced and directed by Ramesh Yanthra in 2017. Before screening the documentary Ramesh will talk briefly about Prehistory and rock shelters in India. He will also touch upon the facets and details of Robert Bruce Foote that have not been covered in the documentary.
1858ல் இந்திய நிலவியல் ஆய்வுத்துறையில் நிலவியலாளராக அரசுப்பணியை ஆரம்பித்த ராபர்ட் ப்ருஸ் ஃபூட், பன்முகம் கொண்ட ஆளுமை. தொல்லியல், அருங்காட்சியியல், இனவரையியல், ஓவியம், தொல்லுயிரியல் என பல துறைகளின் ஆர்வமுள்ள வல்லுநர். 33 ஆண்டுகள் இந்தியாவில் குறுக்கு நெடுக்காக சுமார் 53000 கிமீ தூரம் பயணம் செய்து 459 முன்வரலாற்றுத் தளங்களையும் 4135 பண்டைக்கால சின்னங்களையும் கண்டுபிடித்து, தொலைந்து போயிருந்த இந்திய முன்வரலாற்றின் பல அத்தியாயங்களை மீட்டெடுத்தவர்.
”ராபர்ட் ப்ருஸ் ஃபூட் – இந்திய முன்வரலாற்றின் தந்தை” ரமேஷ் யந்த்ராவால் தயாரித்து இயக்கி 2017-வது வருடம் வெளியிடப்பட்ட ஆவணப்படம். ஆவணப்படத்தை திரையிடும் முன், இந்திய முன்வரலாறு மற்றும் குகை வாழிடங்கள் பற்றி சுருக்கமாக ரமேஷ் யந்த்ரா உரையாற்றுவார். ராபர்ட் ப்ருஸ் ஃபூட்டின் ஆளுமையைப் பற்றியும், ஆவணப்படத்தில் இடம் பெறாத பரிமாணங்களையும் தகவல்களையும் பகிர்ந்து கொள்வார்
About the Speaker
Ramesh Yanthra is a Chennai based filmmaker and producer. He is a post graduate student of College of Fine Arts, Chennai, having obtained a M.F.A (Master of Fine Arts) degree in 1999. He worked as an art director for few years before he took up documentary filmmaking. His first documentary Gudiyam Caves brought to light a little known caves and rock shelters just 60 kms from Chennai. It was screened at the Short Film Corner in Cannes Film Festival 2015. He followed it up with a documentary commissioned by Tourism Department of Tamil Nadu on the Danish fort of Tharangampadi.
சென்னையில் வாழும் ரமேஷ் யந்த்ரா, ஒரு திரைப்பட இயக்குனர் மற்றும் தயாரிப்பாளர். சென்னை அரசாங்க நுண்கலை கல்லூரியிலிருந்து 1999-ல் முதுகலைப் பட்டம் பெற்றவர். சில வருடங்கள் கலை இயக்குனராக பணியாற்றினார். அவரது தயாரித்து இயக்கிய முதல் ஆவணப்படம் சென்னையின் பூண்டி நீர்த்தேக்கத்திற்கு அருகில் உள்ள அதிகமாக அறியப்படாத ஆனால் மிகத் தொன்மையான குகை வாழிடங்களில் ஒன்றான ”குடியம் குகைகள்”. 2015-வது வருடம் பிரெஞ்சு நாட்டு கான் சர்வதேச திரைப்பட விழாவில் திரையிடப்பட்டு இப்படம் பெரும் வரவேற்பு பெற்றது. இது தவிர தமிழ் நாடு சுற்றுலாத் துறைக்காக தரங்கம்பாடி டேனிஷ் கோட்டை பற்றியும் ஆவணப் படம் இயக்கியிருக்கிறார்.
