About the Speaker:
M.
Sowmiya is a graduate in fine arts, drawing and painting (University of
Madras), and is a postgraduate in Indian Music (Mother Teresa's Womens
University). She was a disciple of the outstanding painter/musician
Sangeetha Acharya Sri S.Rajam, in music and painting. She has
accompanied him in numerous music concerts and lecture demonstrations
all over India. She is a naturally emotive singer with a devotional
bent. She also plays on the veena.
She is an
outstanding graduate of COMET at Brhaddhvani, and was recognized for her
original contributions in children education, critical review and
research support. She has also assisted Dr. Karakudi S. Subramanian in
research projects. Her area of interests in getting across the basics of
South Indian music to young children using play way methods have made
her author 'SVARITHA-3 VOLUMES OF FIRST EVER INDIAN EDUCATION SERIES OF
BOOKS FOR CHILDREN' and another book called 'MUSIC ALPHABETS'.
