(ஒடிசாவின் பௌத்தப் பண்பாட்டுச் சின்னங்கள் குறித்து ஓர் அறிமுகம்)
by
Shyam Raman
3rd June 2017, Saturday 5.30
PM at Arkay Chennai Convention Center,
146/3 R.H.Road, OMS Lakshana (Above Shah
Electronics), Mylapore, Chennai
About the Topic: Lalitagiri, Ratnagiri and
Udayagiri, about two and a half hours away from Bhubaneswar, were major centers
of Buddhism. The remains at Lalitagiri have been dated as early as 3rd C CE;
Ratnagiri and Udayagiri developed subsequently. They were great centers of
Vajrayana buddhism between the 7th and 11th centuries. Archaeological
excavations from 1958 and more recently in 1997-2000 have unearthed the ruins
of a grand monastic complex with magnificent shrines. The sites have numerous
sculptures of the Mahayana and Vajrayana pantheon as well as hundreds of votive
stupas. The talk will include a quick overview of the three sites as well as an
introduction to the basics of Buddhist iconography in Odisha.

Mechanical Engineering and a post graduate in Management. He is currently
employed with a large conglomerate based in Chennai. In the past few
