We are extremely happy to invite you to our annual in person event 'Pechu Kacheri 2024.'

Titled 'THOLLIYAL KAPPIYAM' - Archaeological expeditions of Tamil Nadu, this event will be held on 14th and 15th December 2024 (Saturday & Sunday), 9.30am - 5pm at our regular venue of Tamil Virtual Academy, Kotturpuram, Chennai.

Comprising of 8 talks & 2 conversations, in Tamil,  across the 2 days, the subject will be addressed both from an overall perspective & specific Site findings.

While some experts talk about Tamil Nadu's History, Ancient Ports and Trade, Economics and Wealth & Women's cultural lives, others will be sharing their hands on experience of expeditions like  Keezhadi, Gangai Konda Cholapuram etc.

The 2 conversations will be interactive sessions post lunch, where a THT member will discuss, with the speakers, the specific methodology and details involved in their work, thus enabling a professional insight.

The Aesthetics of Classical Indian Paintings. By Arjun Bharadwaj. Dec 7, 2024


In his talk titled, "The Aesthetics of Classical Indian Paintings", Arjun Bharadwaj draws on principles from Indian treatises on paintings and illustrates them with examples from the Indian classical tradition. The online Talk in English is at 5.30 pm IST on Saturday, December 7, 2024. About the Speaker: Arjun Bharadwaj is an author, researcher, and translator with a deep interest in classical literature, arts, and philosophy. An engineer by training, he is well-versed in Sanskrit, Kannada, English, German, and Greek languages. Arjun works as a contributing editor of Prekshaa and is currently studying the comparative aesthetics of classical Greek and Indian literature. He has (co-)written and translated many books and authored over fifty research articles related to literature, arts, philosophy, and science. Some of his books include Indian Perspective of Truth and Beauty in Homer’s Epics, Nayana-Savana (co-authored with R Ganesh), Saṅgīta-darpaṇa of Gaurīśvara (critically edited and translated), The Essential Ramayana, The Essential Mahabharata (co-translated), and Prekṣaṇīyam (translation of R Ganesh’s Kannada original). He has also translated S L Bhyrappa’s novels Yaana (into English) and co-translated Niraakarana (into English and German) Arjun is also a visiting faculty at many universities and educational institutions. He has taught courses and conducted workshops on the Nāṭya-śāstra, Artha-śāstra, Kalātattva, Purāṇas, Sanskrit literature, the Epics, Indian sciences, and Temple Art, Architecture, and Iconography. Arjun also enjoys composing poems and plays the Carnatic flute. He composes lyrics for dance, music and theatrical productions.
