Rediscovery of India's History: R. Gopu (Audio)

Sir William Jones set up the Asiatic Society in Bengal, and subsequently very many East India Company officials and other scholars set about trying to understand Indian history. It was not an easy process. Indians had completely forgotten about their own history. They had no clue about how to read the Brahmi script, they had no knowledge of Gautama Buddha, nor the great emperor Ashoka (or in the south Rajaraja Chola or any of the Pallava Kings). So India had to be rediscovered. This lecture by Gopu shows how the process of rediscovery began.

This lecture/presentation was made at the Measi School of Architecture, New College under the aegis of INTACH, Chennai.
