Lords of the Dakshinapadhas: Satavahanas by Dr. Manjiri Bhalerao

Dr Manjiri Bhalerao will talk about the origin and consolidation of the Satavahana empire and its important kings and queens. She will highlight the key political events during their rule including the importance of international and hinterland trade. Citing the inscriptions, literature and coinage of the Satavahana period, Dr Bhalerao will explain the significance of their rule from the cultural, social perspectives, art, architectural remains. About the Speaker: Dr Manjiri Bhalerao She is an Associate Professor of Indology in Shri Balmukund Lohia Centre of Sanskrit & Indological Studies, Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth, Pune. Her areas of research are Buddhism, Ancient Indian Art & Architecture, Archaeology, Epigraphy, Numismatics, Iconography, ancient Indian literature etc. She has co-authored two books and published 27 research papers and numerous popular articles. A recipient of numerous prestigious research grants, she was appointed to the Editorial Board of the Gazetteer Department, Govt. of Maharashtra and to the Regional Advisory Board of the ICCR at Pune.
