About the topic:
When Viswanathan stared out of the window of his class room during a rare moment of distraction, he could not help but be drawn to the chatter of the birds around the lake not very far from his college.  He went very close to the window almost pressing him to the somewhat rusting frame. To his untrained eye all the birds looked the same from the distance. Someone among the students muttered Painted stork. He quickly turned around trying spot that person. Suddenly the silence in the class was louder than the crackle of the birds.
It became a routine for Viswanathan, during the short breaks, to look through the window trying to identify several types of birds that flocked that water body.  The artist in him would record the shape and colours the birds. He would go back home sketch and add colour to the images that he carefully preserved in his memory. But he was increasingly becoming dissatisfied with what he reproduced. He then decided to fly out of the walls and get closer to the objects of his curiosity.
Some of his students volunteered to watch the birds with him. Once closer, the sheer variety and number of birds astounded them. There were plants and organisms too, small, medium and big. They would make notes, take pictures and shoot videos. References off-line and online helped delineate the blurry lines and identify many birds with the confidence of a victor. The smile of the success made them explore other water bodies in their ‘water bowl’ of an extended neighbourhood. The results surprised them.
Viswanathan and his small team will be at Tamil Heritage Trust to share their unalloyed joy, the journey of discovery brings.
